OpenAI Agent Builder Alternatives
OpenAI is retiring Agent Builder, the visual canvas from AgentKit. Here is what changes, how to get your workflows out, and where to rebuild them, checked against OpenAI's docs on Oct 29, 2026.
How to Migrate
- List your workflows. Note each workflow's tools, connectors, guardrails and where it is embedded with ChatKit.
- Export each one as code. In Agent Builder, use Code to export the workflow as Agents SDK code in Python or TypeScript.
- Choose where it runs. Keep it as code in your own app with the Agents SDK, rebuild it as a ChatGPT Workspace Agent for internal teams, or rebuild it on another platform below.
- Test before you switch. OpenAI says the export does not convert the graph or guarantee identical behavior. Check control flow, tool calls, sign-in and permissions with real inputs.
- Move your chat UI. If you used ChatKit with a hosted workflow, point ChatKit at your own server-side agent.

When does OpenAI Agent Builder shut down?
OpenAI says Agent Builder is scheduled to shut down on November 30, 2026. OpenAI announced the deprecation on June 3, 2026, and existing users can keep using it until then. ChatKit remains available.
What happens to my Agent Builder workflows?
After November 30, 2026 they will no longer be available on the OpenAI platform. Before then, export each workflow as Agents SDK code in Python or TypeScript and run it yourself, or rebuild it as a ChatGPT Workspace Agent.
How do I export a workflow from Agent Builder?
Open the workflow in Agent Builder and use the Code option to export it as Agents SDK code in TypeScript or Python. OpenAI notes that the export does not convert your workflow graph or guarantee every behavior transfers unchanged, so test control flow, tools, authentication and permissions.
Is OpenAI Evals also shutting down?
OpenAI says it is winding down the Agent Builder and Evals products, and both will no longer be available on the OpenAI platform from November 30, 2026.
What is the closest visual alternative to Agent Builder?
Langflow, n8n, Dify and Flowise all give you a drag-and-drop canvas for agent workflows and can be self-hosted. For a hosted, no-code tool, look at Gumloop, Zapier Agents, Copilot Studio or Lindy.
Do I still need ChatKit?
Only if you embedded the Agent Builder chat UI. OpenAI says ChatKit stays available, and for new work it recommends running ChatKit with your own server-side agent, for example one built with the Agents SDK.
